Les peintres, Reniere&Depla, sont les instigateurs et les commissaires de l’exposition. Ils souhaitent mettre en lumière le fil historique qui relie les anciens Pays bas, les Flandres, la Bourgogne et témoigner de l’importance des interactions, des migrations culturelles et artistiques qui bravent les régimes politiques et le temps.

The Flemish artists Reniere&Depla, the curators of the biennale. They want to focus on the historical thread which links the former Low Countries, Flanders and Burgundy, and to illustrate the importance of the interactions and the cultural and artistic migrations which have withstood the changing political regimes and eras.

Het kunstenaarsduo Reniere&Depla, curatoren van dit project, maakt voor deze eerste editie een eigenzinnige selectie van kunstenaars uit de Lage Landen. Ze verhalen wat hen op raadselachtige wijze ontroerde,verwonderde en bijbleef. De historische eenheid van Vlaanderen en Bourgondië in de 14de 15de eeuw is hun imaginaire kapstok om artistieke interacties en migraties te visualiseren die de tijd en de politiek-geografische constellaties overstijgen.

« Ce qui pèse et ce qui nourrit » (Le Verger). Ces mots de Rainer Maria Rilke, nous apportent les clés d’un monde où l’histoire, la culture, la terre, pèsent sur notre quotidien mais nous donnent l’impulsion vitale pour avancer encore, pour chercher les autres, l’autre dans ce qu’il a de plus nourrissant. Ils racontent un émouvant univers hors normes, montrent un chemin de traverse loin des modes et des préjugés. Délaissant les représentations conventionnelles du visible, ces œuvres recréent, réinventent au-travers de la sensibilité, du prisme personnel de chaque artiste, sa propre vision de la réalité.

« All that is heavy, and all that must be sated» (The Orchard III). These words by Rainer Maria Rilke give us the keys to a world in which history, culture and the earth itself weigh upon our daily lives and yet give us vital impulsion to go even further, and to seek others from whom we may gleen nourishment. They relate a moving universe, outside accepted norms, showing a curious path far from modes and prejudices. Leaving aside conventional representations of the visible, these works recreate and reinvent through the sensitivity and the individual prism of each artist his own vision of reality.

“Ce qui pèse et ce qui nourrit” Dit vers van R.M.Rilke reikt ons een sleutel aan tot een wereld waar geschiedenis, cultuur en territorialiteit wegen op ons dagdagelijkse leven maar meteen ook een impuls is, om op zoek te gaan naar de voedingsbodem in het andere en de anderen.
